I wanted to mention this Automotive place in Inverness for in case anyone needs work done or anything on their car.
Denny has always got his cars worked on here and has been very happy.
So, when the Buick started giving us fits yesterday Tim and I decided we had better take it into the shop because he did not have time to track down what the problem was. So because of Denny's recommendation we took it to R&K.
I hate taking my cars into Automotive shops because it seems like they always find a million and two things that need repaired.
I called them today to see if they could check it out by tomorrow if we brought it in today and also how much it would cost for a diagnosis.
They said bring it in -- no charge for the diagnosis unless we have to tear it apart.
So when Tim got off work today he crippled it into the shop. When Tim told them what it was doing (fine one day and crippling and guzzling gas like crazy the next) they told him there were two things they would want to initially check out.
They said first of all down here squirrels are real bad about getting into the engine and eating the wiring.
Once they raised the hood and seen how clean the engine was they told him their next guess would be Distributor. They asked him if he was good with working on cars (he has always done 95% of the maintenance on our cars) he told them he had done quite a bit of work on cars just didn't know where to start and didn't have the time to track it down. They said if you want to go to Advance and buy a distributor and see if that is the problem you could probably fix it yourself for a lot less. They said if that doesn't fix it -- bring it back in and we will go from there. Tim tried to pay them and they refused and said the advice was FREE.
So, he went to Advance (purchased the wrong part the first time but decided to keep it due to the condition of the one that he took off) -- then put a new distributor on it and it was purring like a kitten when he got home.
So, the moral of this long story is rather than take advantage of us -- they told us what they thought the problem was and saved us some labor $$
They are also going to be doing some work on moms car on Monday for $300.00 which the lowest quote she had gotten previously was $600. at Chiltons -- so half price
So I just wanted to pass on this information. If you are like me -- when something goes wrong on the car you are in a tight little spot and sometimes we can be taken advantage of.
So if you need work done -- might want to check them out!!!
